Cabot Tower

Fashioned to join style with function, the Cabot Tower offers plenty of storage and striking good looks. Unlike other cabinets, its vertical design allows it to fit in otherwise hard to funish spaces. This handsome cabinet features reclaimed old growth cypress and old growth redwood from our Rheingold Vat Wood collection, making it both historically interesting and environmentally friendly.

The cabinet top, shelves and frame are made of Cherry, which deepens to a rich reddish brown over time. The drawer fronts, door frame, and side panels are made with tight-grained reclaimed cypress. The door panels are reclaimed Redwood. Dovetailed drawers, mortise and tenon joints, curved stile doors and hand-turned walnut pulls detail the excellent craftsmanship of this piece. Walnut pegs add visual interest. Oil/varnish and wax finish.

The wood used for the frame and shelving of our Cabot Tower is Cherry. Grown in the eastern half of the United States, Cherry was often used in original colonial American furniture-making. Cherry wood is moderately hard, strong, and close-grained with a high resistance to warping. Its light to reddish brown color deepens with age and exposure to sunlight. In addition to Cherry, Old Growth Reclaimed Cypress and Old Growth Reclaimed Redwood are used for drawers, door frames and panels. Part of our Reclaimed Rheingold Vat Wood, this cypress and redwood has historical interest, a tight grain, and a lovely patina. As reclaimed woods, also sometimes referred to as antique woods or recycled woods, they offer an environmentally friendly choice for furniture building.
