About Clarner Woodworks
Vermont furniture maker,
Doug Clarner, specializes in custom made fine handcrafted furniture. He is a member of the
Guild of Vermont Furniture Makers, and has a reputation for excellence.
Rooted in the Shaker tradition, his furniture style calls upon elements from the Arts and Crafts movement
and shows some Japanese influences as well. He has also produced custom made Mission style furniture for clients.
While traditional joinery
(dovetails and mortise & tenon), clean
lines, and subtle details characterize
much of his work, it is not
confining. This is exemplified by his "rapid gate ski chairs", a one-of-a-kind design which
was
featured in an article in the October 2002 issue of Ski Magazine.
All Clarner Woodworks products are custom-made
to the clients specifications,
from the concept and design to the
wood type and finish. Because Doug is passionate about what he does
and takes enormous pride in his work, customers are assured unique,
high-quality, handmade furnishings that
fit their homes and lifestyles.
Doug participates in Vermont's Open Studio Weekend each spring, but is pleased to welcome visitors
to his workshop at other times with an advance appointment. Doug resides in the village of East Burke, Vermont, in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. A New England
native and Middlebury College graduate,
he makes furniture in the renovated barn-workshop next to his home.
