Furniture Style

Rooted in the Shaker tradition, Doug's furniture style calls upon elements from the Arts and Crafts movement and shows some Japanese influences as well. He has also produced custom made Mission style furniture for clients. Traditional joinery, clean lines, and subtle details make up the foundation on which Clarner Woodworks' designs are based.

While his appreciation and respect for Shaker designs is evident, Doug enjoys incorporating different wood species, subtle curves, and interesting details. The attractive designs and delicate-looking details of his heirloom-quality furniture belies the fact that each piece is made to be a practical and functional part of everyday living. As Doug's furniture style has evolved over the years, his primary goal has remained constant: to build fine, handmade furniture that will be used and enjoyed for many generations.
